lynn chadwick

“Chadwick was an English sculptor who produced large-scale, somewhat abstract works in bronze and steel, known for his improvisational technique of welding metal without sketches or plans, designing as he manipulated his material. He studied architecture at the Merchant Taylors’ School, and worked as a draughtsman in architecture firms, taking particular interest in the work of Rodney Thomas. After serving as a pilot during World War II, he began experimenting with small sculptures and mobiles of lightweight materials such as wire, balsa wood and light brass abstract objects.” - bio Sothebys

clement meadmore

“A sculptor creating large-scale geometric shapes, Clement Meadmore used "hulking lengths of steel" that deceivingly appear fluid and lightweight. He was a key figure in making massive, dense forms the concern of sculpture. Of his work he said that it did not depict any specific thing and was about "the possibility of form and only that . . . I have to start with a real object, a thing---and then try to let it transcend it's physicality." Meadmore, working with maquettes at his kitchen table, paid close attention to geometry and often would work for a year or so to get a certain overall balance of line and shape.” - bio askART

balthazar lobo

“Maternal love and the joyful interactions of mother and child inspired numerous works By Balthazar Lobo. He explored these interactions through the emotive dimension of human gestures. Like many of his contemporaries, including Henri Laurens and Jacques Lipchitz, Lobo used the contours of the female form to explore abstract shapes and harmonies. Yet his abstraction moves beyond the visual, attempting to isolate the essence of that which is both subjective and universal: "My current work is, as always, figurative; which is to say that it is abstract. It necessarily begins with figuration.” -bio askArt
